How it works - A step by step guide.

Please read all the information on this page to help ensure your item is something I can mend and if the practicalities of the service work for you.

You can also check out the gallery pages for inspiration and notes on visible vs discreet repairs.

1. Complete the repair intake form and please provide as much information as you can. If you have more than one item, please fill in a separate form per item. Please note that completing a form does not guarantee I can take on your item.

2. I will respond to your request via email where we can discuss your mending options, design ideas and I can provide you with an initial quote and a rough timescale for the work to be completed.

3. Once you’re happy with the proposed plan, I will provide you with my postal address to send your item to me. Please include a note in your parcel of your name, email, and return address.

4. Once I have your item/s, I will keep in touch if I hit any roadblocks, have any further questions or need to update you with changes to quoted timeframe and potential cost. Turnaround time can vary depending on my workload and your item’s repair needs. For a rough idea, quiet periods and small jobs could only take 1 week, whereas larger jobs during busy periods could take up to 6 weeks.

5. Once I've completed the repairs, I will email you photos to make sure you are happy with the work before posting it back to you. See more details on postage below.

6. Lastly I will email you an invoice for payment which will include a breakdown of costs and my payment details.

What I repair

Yes please!

  • Holes, tears and wear in knitted, woven and felted items.

  • Stubborn stains/marks - for decorative or subtle cover ups, not a cleaning service.

  • Split seams, unravelling hems, missing/loose buttons.

No thank you!

  • Leather goods, swimwear, specialist outerwear (waxed or waterproofed jackets etc), fine lace or crochet items.

  • Alterations or elastic waistband replacements.

  • Any hardware replacements such as zips, metal fastenings, studs etc.

  • Relining or full pocket replacements (but patching small tears and holes in these I can do).

Postage & Packaging

Please note this service is for UK customers only

  • Please make sure your item is clean and treated for moths (if applicable) before sending.

  • You will need to cover postage cost both ways. The return postage cost will be added to your invoice.

  • Please choose a trusted postal service and insure your item/s for the correct value. I cannot take responsibility for lost packages so I highly recommend you send your items tracked.

  • I will return your item/s using the Royal Mail Tracked 48 service - please let me know if you would prefer another option.

  • I will re-use packaging when possible to reduce waste - either using what you send your item in or something from my own stash.

Pricing

As every item and its damage can vary greatly, I cannot provide a price list for repairs at this time, however the starting cost of any repair is £25.

I will always suggest a range of solutions for your item and the corresponding approximated cost so this can be part of your decision. Please note that all quotes are given to the best of my ability and experience but they are subject to change on inspection in person - even the best photos and information can only tell me so much.

Getting a quote from me is free and it does not mean you are obligated to send me your item.

If you’re still unsure whether I could repair your item or if you have any issues with the intake form then please email me at contact@overstorymending.co.uk
